An implant based prosthesis is the best available solution for replacing missing tooth/ teeth. A dental implant is basically a titanium post which is surgically inserted into the jawbone beneath the gum line to work as a tooth root. Post insertion, a crown is attached on top of the implant to ensure the appearance of a natural tooth.Tooth Implants not only look and feel like your natural teeth but also function like them as they are fixed in the jaw. Implant placement procedure causes minimal discomfort, does not require any damage to the adjacent teeth and have excellent long term success.

The dental implant procedure involves two surgical procedures. Where in the first phase the implants are placed within patients jawbone. It is kept for 2-3 months post surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums allowing them to bond with the jawbone gradually. Patient generally wear temporary dentures on dentist advise to eat a soft diet during this time period.

The second phase starts immediately once the jaw bone bonded with implant. The dental implants will be uncovered by the dentist to attach small post that protrude through gums to act as anchors for the artificial teeth and these posts are not visible once the procedure is completed. The complete dental implant treatment takes around 3 – 4 months may be less, but vastly depends about various factors and conditions.

Sometime prosthesis (crown) is used to replace one missing tooth each prosthetic tooth attaches to its own implant. A partial prosthesis (fixed bridge) can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three implants. A complete dental prosthesis (fixed bridge) replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of implants varies depending upon which type of complete prosthesis (removable or fixed) is recommended. A removable prosthesis (over denture) attaches to a bar or ball in socket attachments, whereas a fixed prosthesis is permanent and removable only by the dentist.
